Swartland, Coastal Region, South AfricaAdi Badenhorst is a champion of the Swartland, the region his family has family has been rooted in and growing on for generations. Secateurs is the introductory tier to the range. This wine is mostly bush vines from the family farm, Kalmoesfontein, on the granite slopes of the northern side of the Paaardeberg Mountain. 50% shiraz is joined by 25% each grenache and cinsault, native co-fermented in open concrete tanks over 2 weeks before aging in older casks and concrete for 7 months prior to bottling. Dusky wild blackberry, cassis, and plum glide through this juicy wine, with slight tannins guiding to a warming kirsch, peppery finish.
