Rall Red 2021
Swartland, Coastal Region, South AfricaDonovan Rall is a giant of a winemaker, literally (he's SO tall) and figuratively. This Swartland blend of 78% Syrah, 13% Grenache, 7% Carignan and 2% Cinsault was sourced from a selection of vineyards and schist / granite soils. Each part was native fermented whole bunch and rested in older oak for 10 months before blending and bottling. Unlike his other bottling, the Rall Red always sees an extra year in bottle prior to release. Alluringly wild, with sunned cherry, plum, and crunchy tart blackberries woven with thorns and perfumed by scrubby fynbos and medicinal herbs. Tannins are sueded, yet with a rustic tug that rights everything to the bitter kirsch kissed finish. Great schistous structure promises this excellent vintage longevity.Tasted: 27 September 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:| BC | $55.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
