Verdicchio is a very flexible grape that can travel down different paths: dry, fresh and mineral; spicy, rich, and full-bodied; and the sweet passito style. I am partial to the fresh, dry style found in this Colognola Via Condotto Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. The nose is an aromatic affair reminiscent of fresh cut white and yellow flowers, while a line of acidity and freshness runs the length of the wine. Orchard fruit and figs dusted with almonds round out the palate. Another versatile gastronomic wine for West Coast seafood dishes that sells for a bargain price of $22.
