Pizzini Pietra Rossa Sangiovese 2023

King Valley, Victoria, AustraliaThe Pizzini Sangiovese Pietra Rossa, made with the Brunello clone, seems to have adapted perfectly to King Valley, producing savoury, red fruited wines with bright acidity that lift the palate vertically rather than widen it. Altitude plays a significant role here, with King Valley among the highest in Australia, ranging from 300 to 800 metres above sea level. This is a proper, mid-weight, savoury red that combines sour cherries and cranberries, with a light chocolate sheen finishing smooth and long, with that classic Italian dryness that clearly indicates "Serve me with food." It is remarkably Italian, something few examples outside Italy ever achieve. As Europe continues to warm up, could King Valley Sangiovese and Chianti Classico become even more alike in style?Tasted: 25 July 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
