Pizzini Forza di Ferro Sangiovese 2023
King Valley, Victoria, AustraliaForza di Ferro is made from a small parcel of single vineyard vines grown at altitude on a ridge of iron rich old decaying soils. It is wild fermented in an 80/20 mix of cement and casks, giving it a mineral, smooth, lively demeanour from front to back. Aiding the sangiovese to show its best is an ageing process of 14-18 months in 3000L oak vats. It is at once savoury and fresh, with perfectly ripe fruit reminiscent of just ripe cherries, dark plums, and a classic whiff of forest floor. Structurally, this wine has some extra power you don't see in Tuscany, suggesting it is built for ageing and food. That said, it has an attractive texture that draws you to the glass. It's the pinnacle Pizzini sangiovese, and it delivers in the glass. Indeed, it is the best sangiovese I have encountered outside of Italy, and a testament to Australian wine know how.Tasted: 25 July 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:| Australia | $65.00 | 750ml | estimated market price in Australia |
