Moon Curser Dead of the Night 2022
Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaMoon Curser flagship Dead of the Night is nothing if not a hefty red. But unlike many pretenders, this wine has a touch of finesse to keep it on track in the glass and in your mouth. The blend is essentially the top selected syrah and tannat blocks from the East Osoyoos Bench. It's always a dense, opaque black/red colour with a savoury licorice nose that smells like a warm afternoon in the south Okanagan. The oak regime is a mix of 225 litre French oak barriques, mixed with Hungarian oak (35% new), as well as some neutral oak barrels. Despite the alcohol and the warm site, the wine is pleasantly juicy, all of which offset its powerful black fruit, sprinkled with raspberry, pomegranate, and cedar. There is tannin to be sure, but the balance will see through a decade with ease. If you like giant reds, this one is for you. The winery suggests a hearty beef stew, mushroom bourguignon, or dark chocolate chilli and cherry brownies.Tasted: 21 July 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $46.99 | 750ml | winery direct, limited availability in retail and restaurant |
