Villota Selvanevada Rioja Alevesa Bianco 2021
Rioja Alavesa, Rioja, SpainThis Rioja Blanco is a magical blend of 85% viura, 11% white garnacha, 2% malvasia, 2% white tempranillo. The pale gold colour is accompanied by an expressive nose of tropical fruit, including pineapple and lemon, with underlying floral notes, spice, and vanilla. It spends 6 months in French oak aging on its lees, creating a creamy, rich textured palate that hums with minerality, dried apricots, and hazelnuts. Honestly, this is so delicious that it doesn't need any accompaniment. However, in Spain, it's customary to pair it with roasted chicken or pork, cured Spanish ham, herbaceous soups, or rice dishes like paella, made with saffron. The Pérez Villota family has managed the San Rafael estate in the Alavesa region of La Rioja since the 1930s. For five decades, they sold their grapes to a winery collective known as CVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España). They participated in a partnership with CVNE to co-create Contino in the 1970s, but beginning in 2013, the family chose to bottle their wine independently at their winery, Villota.Tasted: 27 June 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $33.99 | 750ml | BCL Stores |
