Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaThe Speck Family Reserve Baco Noir comes off the family's oldest plantings on their estate, started in 1984 in silty clays. This aged in a combination of new and 1-2 years old American barriques, then partially finished in 5000L oak foudres for a combined 12 months. Baked mulberry, blackberry jam, espresso is met with a super tart cassis acidity, slicing the heft here, and finishing with toast and cracked pepper.
