G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe 2021
Barolo, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalySurprisingly, given their access to great terroir, this estate was only founded in 1972 by Aldo, who just 4 years earlier, age 15, took over his family's vines. Named after his father Giuseppe Domenico who planted most of the family’s vines, the property sits at one of the highest points in Piedmont, so the grapes ripen later than anywhere else in the region. Today the estate comprises 150 acres. Albe is a tribute the tradition of the appellation, blending higher elevation vineyards from where, every day, you view the beautiful sunrise (Albe in Italian). This was fermented over 30 days before aging 26 months in large Slavonian casks. Fragrant cherry, perfumed raspberry, crushed florals lure and lead to a finely structured Barolo, kissed with blood orange, black tea, cracked pink pepper, and savoury ferrous notes on the juicy palate. Long, chiselled and grippy tannins take this to a lingering, mineral finish. Superb now in youth, but will easily take to cellaring.Tasted: 15 June 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:BC | $70.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
