Assuli Carinda Insolia 2023

Sicily, ItalyBaglio Assuli lies in the midst of land belonging to the Caruso family, a splendid area of countryside in a property of over 120 hectares. Assuli ("In the sunshine" in Sicilian dialect), is the result of the patient, painstaking restoration of an old 18th century baglio (farm). The third generation of the family, Roberto, Nicoletta and Michele, is now leading the organic estate. Insolia is one of the main Sicilian indigenous white grapes, very historic to the island, and Assuli cultivates it on their Carcitella vineyard, Mazara del Vallo, at 120-150m on rocky clay soils. This was fermented and rested briefly in stainless, on lees. Crushed white blossoms, pear skin, ripe gooseberry slide over a subtly waxen palate, filled with Mediterranean sunshine, but freshened with marine acidity. There's a lot of characterful wine here for the price.Tasted: 20 June 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
