Alkina Grenache 2024
Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaAlkina is a certified organic and biodynamic Barossa farm on the traditional lands of the Ngadjuri people. The founders honour and learn from the land’s Indigenous history (Alkina is an indigenous girl's name meaning 'moon') through their 43 hectares of vines, with the eldest planted in the 1950s. Kin Grenache came from 3 estate blocks, and a mix of schist and limestone soils. Each block was fermented in concrete tulip with 80% whole bunches for around 1 month before being basket pressed to concrete where they rested until the following spring's blending. Pouring a light crimson hue, this opens with fragrant cherry blossoms, perfumed wild strawberry, and scrubby herbs along a slender palate, with finely sticky tannins pinning in the sides. The finish is studded with white pepper. Quite a smart, pure example of place and grape.Tasted: 25 June 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:BC | $50.00 | 750ml | private retail stores |
