Trail Estate Foxcroft Cabernet Franc 2020

Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaFrom Twenty Mile Bench's legendary Foxcroft Vineyard, this cab franc came off 23 year old vines at the foot of the escarpment, on gravelly clay loams. It was destemmed and native fermented over 3 weeks with regular pump overs before moving to French barrels (15% new) for 19 months, then going to bottle unfined and unfiltered. Perfumed blueberry, black plum, cola, and boysenberry stream though a lightly textured palate, with tart cassis acidity, and downy soft tannins leading this to a warming (14.5%) and bitter cassis finish. I feel this wine lost its way a bit, though would work with some sauced BBQ ribs.Tasted: 27 May 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
