Meyer Family Vineyards Chardonnay Old Main Road Vineyard 2023
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2023 growing season commenced with an abrupt transition from late summer to winter in early November 2022, followed by severe cold temperatures in December, resulting in notably reduced chardonnay yields in 2023. Despite the limited crop, the quality is exceptional, characterized by excellent flavours and balanced acidity. The warmer than usual conditions have contributed to this Naramata chardonnay displaying a slightly richer texture that matches its complexity. Orange, tangerine, peach, and hazelnuts combine to complement the oak, resulting in a well balanced, delicious Next World chardonnay that is somewhat reminiscent of Western Australian's Leeuwin Estate. The price remains a rare Okanagan bargain. Old Main Road Vineyard is 27 years old. The vines sit over silty clay loams on the Naramata Bench, and were fermented in stainless steel at low temperatures before moving into about a quarter new French oak with zero bâtonnage for just under a year.Tasted: 14 May 2025Tasted by: Prices:
Meyer Family Vineyards Chardonnay Old Main Road Vineyard 2023
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAlthough the numbers aren't that different from McLean Creek Road Vineyard, this seems to show the warmth of the 2023 vintage more. There's a riper fruit profile veering into orange, peach, and melon, with more forward oak. If anything, it feels like it just needs more time for the components to come into balance, allowing the oak spice to further integrate into the fruit. The more generous, hedonistic style speaks to the vintage through the lens of the Naramata Bench.Tasted: 27 May 2025Tasted by: Prices:
