1 Mill Road Grenache Rosé 2024
Horse Heaven Hills, Columbia Valley, Washington, United StatesThis was sourced from the Coyote Canyon Vineyard, owned by 4th generation farmers in Washington's Horse Heaven Hills AVA (they also make Trothe wines). The season at Horse Heaven Hills is roughly six weeks ahead of the Okanagan, allowing winemaker Ben Bryant to give it extended lees contact and get the complexity to make this wine a top flight example of rosé from anywhere in the world. The grenache was fermented primarily in stainless steel with just under 25% of the juice fermented in neutral French oak for four months. A partial malolactic fermentation is employed to refine and soften the mouthfeel. It opens with a beautiful pale, pale pink colour à la Provence. The nose is equally elegant, mixing florals with pink grapefruit and lemon, with just the right amount of pie crust, ginger spice, and leesy creamy notes to add yet another layer of complexity. It is the real thing at 12% alcohol and bone dry, but there are only 180 cases made. It is among the top replacement rosés I have tasted this year.Tasted: 30 June 2025Tasted by: Prices:BC | $38.00 | 750ml | winery online $228 6-packs only |
