Ontario, CanadaThis Ontario riesling is Tantalus' 2024 CIBC answer to their iconic riesling bottling. Instead of looking south, like the majority of replacement wines, winemaker Dave Paterson went east, to Niagara, and two highly regarded vineyards also planted to the 21B clone of riesling (Tantalus' home clone). From Grimsby Hillside and Picone Vineyards, this was whole bunch pressed, settled for 2 days and shipped cross Canada in a reefer to be fermented at Tantalus' Kelowna winery. True to house style, this was finished off-dry, with 15 g/L RS. Juicy and joyous, with ripe pear, fragrant peach, mandarin, and a slick of honeysuckle along a fine lees base, finishing with some stony spice and orange pith. Nice blend of tension and juiciness, as per the usual Tantalus releases, with the added bonus of limestone zing.Tasted: 24 August 2025Tasted by: Prices:

Tantalus Riesling Ontario 2024

Ontario, CanadaIn 2024, Tantalus explored and collaborated with winegrowing colleagues in two cool climate regions. They partnered with growers in Ontario for riesling: Paul Franciosa at Grimsby Hillside; and Mark Picone at his vineyard nearby. Both sites were planted with the identical Riesling clone, 21B, used by Tantalus in British Columbia. The fruit was whole bunch pressed, settled for two days, refrigerated, and transported to British Columbia. The final blend balanced itself with the perfect level of sweetness (just under 15 g/L of residual sugar) to maintain the characteristic tension of Tantalus wines. This wine is similar to its British Columbia version, with mandarins, apples, pink grapefruit, and citrus pith in the finish. The wet stone finish brings it together harmoniously. Tantalus Riesling Ontario 2024

Ontario, CanadaRiesling is one of Tantalus Vineyard's great strengths and it's much in evidence here. The winery looked East to Ontario for replacement grapes rather than South, utilizing two neighbouring vineyards: Grimbsby Hillside and Mark Picone. The neighbouring sites are planted to the same riesling clone 21B but have remarkably different terroirs. Opening with light petrol, wet stones, green apple and citrus peel, this is off-dry but with a crisp, bright acidity, showing pure lime peel, wet wool, honey, wet stones, and green apple. It should develop much further with more time in the bottle. Different shades of flavour here versus their Okanagan rieslings, yet still embodies the house style and their high standards of quality.Tasted: 19 May 2025Tasted by: Prices:
