Tantalus Riesling Ontario 2024
Ontario, CanadaIn 2024, Tantalus explored and collaborated with winegrowing colleagues in two cool climate regions. They partnered with growers in Ontario for riesling: Paul Franciosa at Grimsby Hillside; and Mark Picone at his vineyard nearby. Both sites were planted with the identical Riesling clone, 21B, used by Tantalus in British Columbia. The fruit was whole bunch pressed, settled for two days, refrigerated, and transported to British Columbia. The final blend balanced itself with the perfect level of sweetness (just under 15 g/L of residual sugar) to maintain the characteristic tension of Tantalus wines. This wine is similar to its British Columbia version, with mandarins, apples, pink grapefruit, and citrus pith in the finish. The wet stone finish brings it together harmoniously.
