Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2024

Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceThe Usseglio family first started making wine in Châteauneuf-du-Pape after World War 2, and their first vintage was released in 1949. They have since converted their vineyards to organic and biodynamic Demeter certified. This clairette comes from their estate vineyards and 50 year old vines in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and is a parcel selection from the Bois Sénéchaux's sandy soils. This was native fermented in 17 hL foudres and 5 hL demi-muids from Stockinger, followed by 6 months again in the same vessels. This blends 30% grenache blanc, 30% clairette, 30% roussane, 5% bourboulenc, 5% piquepoul from vines averaging 50 years, and across a blend of the 4 main soil types of the AOC (sand, clay, limestone, and galets). Pouring a shining deep yellow, this leads with fragrant white peach, perfumed orchard blossoms, ripe pear, and cool quince which roll along the full palate, kept nimble and fresh by terroir and sensitive handling. Very harmonious, drinking well now in youth and certainly with time ahead.Tasted: 18 April 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
