CheckMate Artisanal Winery Queen Taken Chardonnay Dekleva Vineyard 2022
Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaOver the past decade, Queen Taken Chardonnay, starting from the 2013 vintage, has experienced significant growth in stature and refinement. The 2022 Queen Taken results from extensive effort and meticulous attention to detail, benefiting from one of the best growing seasons in the contemporary era of British Columbia wines. With a deep historical foundation, the 47 year old vines, primarily Dekleva and Combret, and a small quantity of newly planted Old Wente clones from California, thriving on the Golden Mile Bench, ripen gradually into the fall, enhancing complexity and concentration. 2022 was particularly long, with substantial late fall ripening, spawning enticing aromas of guava, Asian pear, and floral notes. On the palate, the wine presents pear, green tea, ginger, creamy textures, a hint of honey, dried herbs, and desert scrub for added complexity. Winemaking notes include handpicked fruit with 56% wild fermentation in 29 barrels, 85% French oak (55% new), 9% fermented concrete egg, and 6% fermented in two ceramic spheres, all aged 14 months in oak.Tasted: 30 April 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $125.00 | 750ml | winery club members |
