Sea Smoke Chardonnay 2022

Santa Rita Hills, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, Central Coast, California, United StatesIt's not often you encounter an American chardonnay that turns your head, but this estate grown chardonnay that is hand picked and hand sorted in the vineyard is impressive. The winemaking is straightforward: the aging post-malolactic fermentation is 10 months in 10% new oak barrels before it goes into bottle with no fining or filtration. The Santa Rita Hills white opens with an elegant, fragrant nose of lemon curd, freshly cut peach, ripe pear, and wet stone that fades into mandarin and creamy textures, streaked with hazelnuts and a mineral, damp stone finish. The balance of fruit and alcohol at 13.3% is perfect. It's not Burgundy, but it's excellent California.Tasted: 04 March 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
