Aegean Islands - Crete, The Islands, GreeceOenops was founded in 2015 by winemaker Nikos Karatzas, with a focus on indigenous and rare grape varieties grown on profound terroir. He selects organically grown cool climate sites and old vine plots, from vineyards in Drama and Macedonia. This is made from the indigenous vidiano grape, sourced from old vineyards in the mountainous area of Heraklion, Crete. This was native fermented in clay amphorae, large barrels, stainless steel, and concrete tanks before blending and resting in 6 months on lees in amphora. It was bottled unfiltered. Tangerine, white grapefruit, melon, and Asian pear lead this bright, slight, shining white, with a finely buzzy texture to match the singing acidity.
