Rocca di Frassinello Rocca di Frassinello Maremma Rosso 2020
Maremma, Tuscany, ItalyRocca di Frassinello was born out of a collaboration between the people behind Tuscany’s Castellare di Castellina, and Bordeaux First Growth Lafite Rothschild, namely Christian Le Sommer, enologist of Les Domaines Baron de Rothschild-Lafite, and Alessandro Cellai of Castellare di Castellina. The collaboration had been abandoned for a long time, but the merlot and cabernet sauvignon cuttings from Lafite remain a key part of the blend. The hillside soils are mainly galestro. The vineyard is thought to yield fruit that is a cross between Chianti Classico and Montalcino. The normal composition is 20% merlot, 20% cabernet sauvignon, and 60% sangiovese fermented in stainless steel and aged 24 months in barriques (80% new) plus one more year in bottle at the winery. From the beginning, this wine has been about intensity, structure and elegance, led by soft tannins and a certain finesse that weaves through its cherry, blackberry, tobacco and dried herbs. Osso Buco seems like the dish that pairs best with this young wine.Tasted: 07 February 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $95.00 | 750ml | select private retailers |
