Riecine La Gioia Rosso 2020

Tuscany, ItalyRiecine’s organically farmed vineyards (since the 1970s) are in the northern zone of Gaiole, one of the highest quality communes of Chianti Classico. Their vineyards sit between 430 and 600 meters, mostly on very stony alluvial limestone topsoil and limestone bedrock. La Gioia is one of Tuscany’s seminal IGT successes with its inaugural 1982 vintage, designated as a “Vino da Tavola di Toscana”. Today, it is entirely Sangiovese, native fermented in concrete Nomblot tanks with 2 weeks maceration. It rested 30 months in new, second, and third use tonneaux. Tart black cherry, perfumed black raspberry, medicinal kirsch, and crushed stones are woven across the slight, juicy, 13.5% palate, scented with an herbal mushroom savouriness, and framed with long, finely grippy tannins. There's a lovely delicate hand here, allowing the fruit and site to shine long on the palate, finishing with stony salinity.Tasted: 17 February 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
