California, United StatesAs the label suggests, Abstract is a collage of hundreds of blocks of wine tasted in trial blends by the master Dave Phinney. The final formula is a mix of grenache, petite sirah, and syrah, which explains the brooding nature of this big, dark, rich red. At 15.3%, Abstract takes no prisoners in 2022, but for those who love big reds, Abstract does a good job of balancing all its parts: ripe black cherries, black plums, and vanilla, with a warm, sweet-ish vibe from front to back. Long and smooth, it fits the modern American red blend with soft tannins and an easy drinking style.
