Martin's Lane Naramata Ranch Vineyard Single Block Collection Hieroglyph Pinot Noir 2022
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaHieroglyph is a single block pinot noir selection at Naramata Ranch that sits the furthest north on the property under a rocky outcrop and ancient pictographs, hence the name of the wine. It is an austere block with extreme variation among the vine rows, given that it is open to the elements. It is all Pommard clone, and 80% whole bunch fermented from 17 year old vines that look about seven years old. The bunches are tiny, hence the 80% use of stems to add some perfume and elegance. About a quarter of the wine sees oak in the form of the acclaimed Stockinger barrels. The Pommard, both floral and structural, seems at home on the site, offering finer chalky tannins that come from the site instead of the clone. Single block wines are for club members only, with a few restaurant exceptions. It's only the first edition, perhaps reason enough to buy a few bottles, but watching this wine evolve in the vineyard and the bottle will be interesting.Tasted: 18 February 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $125.00 | 750ml | wine club member exclusive ($375-3-packs) |
