Martin's Lane Naramata Ranch Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaI was on the site when the initial plantings of pinot vines went into the ground at Naramata Ranch in the early 2000s, followed by several more blocks at varying elevations and exposures throughout the subsequent decades. Today, the vineyard represents an exceptional mix of sites and mesoclimates, influenced by its exposition and proximity to Okanagan Lake. Four clones are present: Pommard, 943, 828, and 667. At 49.67˚N, two distinct vineyard parcels merge, featuring Dijon clones 667 and 943, revealing a geologically diverse landscape at the north end of the Naramata Bench just before the terrain morphs into a mountainside. The Ranch Pinot is concrete fermented with 65% whole cluster bunches, to manage the tannin levels while enhancing perfume and complexity to the mix. A slightly more generous style and weight is the hallmark of mid-Okanagan pinot grown at 410 to 500 metres. The nose is classic pinot with earthy, warmer tones, a pleasant perfume, savoury black cherries, and licorice fruit in the finish. Elegant, silky pinot noir, you can drink now if you must. The vines are certified organic, and the wine presents at a modest 13% alcohol. Delicious.Tasted: 18 February 2025Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
