Argyros Santorini Assyrtiko 2022

Aegean Islands - Santorini, The Islands, GreeceThis estate assyrtiko comes from 100-120 year old ungrafted vines rooted in Santorini's volcanic sands. It was fermented and aged in stainless, to capture the grape's marine freshness. As you can tell from the hefty bottle (and 14%) this was designed to be a weighty white, pouring a medium yellow hue, and leading with sunripened quince, yellow plum, and fragrant white peach. The fuller palate is thankfully held fresh thanks to the grape's intrinsic acidity, tightening the ripe fruit and buttery topicality. The finish sails on with lingering salinity, reflective of place. I'd love to see less winemaking here, but if you're looking for a full, Mediterranean white look here. The winery certainly thinks it will go the distance, bottling under a Diam10 cork.Tasted: 16 February 2025Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
