Wente Vineyards Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Charles Wetmore 2021
Livermore, San Francisco Bay, California, United StatesWetmore Vineyard in the Livermore Valley is a part of the larger San Francisco Bay AVA and a testament to the long history of California wine growing. Charles Wetmore was California’s first agricultural commissioner, renowned for planting vine cuttings from many of Bordeaux’s top Châteaux in the Livermore Valley in the 1880s. Wente Vineyards was founded in 1883 and today is the largest wine producer in Livermore. The descendants of those vines are alive and well today in the gravelly loam soils between the Arroyo del Valle and the Arroyo Mocho, streams flowing out of the Southern Hills. This cab is a step up in intensity at Wente, marrying rich blackberry with lean coffee and dark chocolate, over a refined complexity that runs the length of the wine. The structure is more Euro than California, with a fresh red fruit finish.
