Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaOff a single vineyard (signified by the black label) from their Cowichan Valley estate, this Pinot Gris (clones 52, 53) was whole cluster pressed and fermented in a mix of stainless (90%) and neutral French oak, before resting 4 more months in stainless on fine lees. A more savoury, stony style compared to their other Pinot Gris bottlings, this leads with crushed stone and oyster shell before green apple, white grapefruit pith, and marine salinity mingles in, the latter lingering on the finish. Give this wine some time to open in the glass.Tasted: 27 April 2026Tasted by: Prices:
Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaAs the Unsworth vineyard sites mature, they have released some vineyard designate wines such as this Unsworth Vineyard Pinot Gris. This 2023 has that electricity the island is famous for, which lights up a palate of fresh, taut minerals, citrus, and green apple with a spray of salinity that takes me to Friuli and Alto Adige in Northern Italy. Seafood, anyone? The fermentation was a 90/10 mix of stainless steel and neutral French oak. It’s aged for four months in stainless steel on fine lees. The vineyard is planted to clones 52 and 53 over marine silt and clay, and bottled at a modest 12.7% alcohol.Tasted: 27 January 2025Tasted by: Prices:
