AustraliaHusband and wife duo Brendan and Laura Carter started Unico Zelo in 2012 to shine a light on the numerous Italian varieties planted in Oz, now shining in the face of climate change. Truffle Hound blends not just grapes (Barbera, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, and Merlot) but regions (Clare Valley and Adelaide Hills), on primarily shale over blue slate. All the various parts make for an intriguing, charming red, slender and muscular, with mulberry, wild blueberry, and plum at the fore, and a rush of wild scrubby herbs and dusky spices filling the aft.
