La Rioja Alta Viña Alberdi Rioja Reserva 2019
Rioja, SpainThis tempranillo comes from estate vineyards in Rodezno and Labasida, rooted in calcareous clays at 500-600m. This was native fermented, and rested in American oak barrels (that they made) for the first year in new oak, and second year in 4th year wood. It was bottled in May 2022. From the excellent 2019 vintage, this is showing quite ripe and warm, with cherry leather, cassis, dried florals, balsamic and tobacco, hugged with nubby tannins, and finishing with a flush of kirsch warmth.
