Orofino Syrah 2021
Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Similkameen Valley is home to this pure-fruited, varietally correct Syrah that takes me to the southern Rhône and competes favourably with mid-priced reds from that historic French region. The floral violets and cherry announce their purity, while chocolate, peppercorns, and a slippery linear flow run the length to the finish. This wine is aged in a combination of 10% new French oak and 10% concrete tanks, with the remainder aging in older, neutral barrels for 17 months. The latter is the secret to its styling. Wild fermented and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it will age effortlessly, adding more value to an already value-packed red.
