Orofino Syrah 2021
Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Similkameen Valley is home to this pure fruited, varietally correct syrah that takes me to the southern Rhône and competes favourably with mid-price reds from that historic French region. The floral violets and cherry announce its purity, while chocolate, peppercorns, and a slippery linear flow runs the length to the finish. This wine is aged in a combination of 10% new French oak and 10% concrete tank, with the remainder spending time in older neutral barrels for 17 months. The latter is the secret to its styling. Wild fermented and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it will age effortlessly and only add more value to an already value packed red.
