Orofino Hendsbee Vineyard Riesling Clone 21B 2022
Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaHendsbee Vineyard on the Cawston Bench is planted into two clones, and Orofino bottles them separately. Clone 21B, the Mosel clone, is all it can be and more in the windy, dry Similkameen Valley, and more importantly, as the vines close in on 20 years, the wine is getting better with each vintage. The current offering is off-dry in that amazingly balanced way that riesling can be. Aromatic, with a fresh savoury Similkameen undercurrent that boosts the ripe pear, sweet lime, and stony mineral palate, all in perfect balance. At barely 11% alcohol it remains a champion for less is more wines. At the other end of the spectrum, this pairs well with a wide variety of spicy foods. Think Thai, Chinese, or Indian dishes.
