Mount Brave Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Mount Veeder, Napa Valley, California, United StatesMt. Brave Vineyard sits high atop Mt. Veeder at an elevation of 1,400 to 1,800 feet on the original home of the Napa native Wappo tribe. The area has been planted since the early 1860s. The site is all about high elevation, meaning thin, rocky soils and numerous winegrowing challenges, including the most extended growing season and lowest yields in Napa Valley. Winemaker Chris Carpenter says, “Mt. Brave Cabernet Sauvignon is meant to show all that is Mt. Veeder without the overt tannins.” The 2021 vintage started with just a little rain in winter and spring, followed by a moderate summer and cooler fall. Carpenter says, “It meant we could pick exactly when we felt the fruit was at its peak, and it tastes like it. At 15% alcohol, you would think the wine would be a monster, but it is so well-balanced you don’t notice it." Floral violets dominate the aromatics. On the palate, the texture is to die for, and it is soaked with blueberries, dried herbs, and dense, sweet tannins. The wine was fermented in stainless steel, and undergoes complete malolactic fermentation in French barrels that are 84% new, where it aged for 22 months. It is likely the most elegant mountain wine you will ever taste. The mix in ‘21 is 93.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, 1% Malbec, 0.5% Petit Verdot.Tasted: 28 November 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
