Little Engine Vineyard Selection Pinot Noir 2022
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA significantly cold winter and a cool spring led to a late bud break, followed by more cool weather in May and June and more than usual rainfall. It was hardly a recipe for success, but the warm weather returned in late June and continued through August, one of the hottest months in history, recording the highest Okanagan GDD (Growing Degree Days) on record. October was warm and dry, aiding the final maturation of the vineyards and this pinot noir. The Vineyard Selection is made from exclusively vines grown in Trestle Vineyard, namely clones 777, 667, and 115. The select blocks were all individually fermented in one ton fermenters and aged in French oak puncheons (39% new) and barrels. The final blend is a barrel selection that plays to the character of Trestle Vineyard. It is a rich, brambleberry and dried raspberry affair with savoury dried herbs, rhubarb, cola, and sticky tannins in the back end.
