Little Engine Gold Chardonnay (Half Bottle) 2022
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaMuch like 2020, this rich chardonnay marries the acidity and cool Okanagan nights with some long, warm 16-17 hour long summer days, creating the impossible: a cool climate California chardonnay. Peaches, honey, and a rich, weighty, dense palate with a citrus vanilla ending are as big as they get for a Naramata chardonnay. Think California with a Canadian update. The Gold Chardonnay fruit, clones 95 and 548, are all Naramata Bench grown on three estate vineyards and harvested from late September to mid October. The aim is to pick for flavour complexity with bright acidity. Fermentations are long and cool using a variety of yeasts in French oak barrels, where some barrels undergo partial or complete malolactic fermentation, adding richness to the texture. The wine is aged 17 months on lees in a final mix of 27% new French oak barriques and puncheons (down from 53% in 2020) and 2nd and 3rd fill barrels.Tasted: 07 November 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $31.50 | 375ml | winery online/direct |
