Kershaw Wines Clonal Selection Chardonnay 2019

Elgin, Overberg, South AfricaRichard Kershaw MW, South Africa’s only winemaking master of wine, went on a mission to bolster cool climate Elgin ("the cooler place to be") by producing his Clonal Selection Range of wines. Off 8 small Elgin parcels and Dijon clones CY96, CY95, CY76 and the Entav clone CY548, this was whole bunch pressed and native fermented (MLF discouraged) before resting in Bourgogne barrels for 11 months (53% new oak). Lees-led, this creamy, elegant white carries perfumed lemon, ripe white peach, pear skin along the curvaceous frame, heightened with lemon pith and peel, and scented with ample fragrant blossoms. Quite posh, yet welcoming, drinking now and over the short term.Tasted: 14 November 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
