Hester Creek Old Vine Cabernet Franc 2022

Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe nose again jumps out of the glass with aromatics and freshness. The style is earthier this year with a bit more of a Loire look. There is freshness that leads into baked plum and bright raspberry. The acidity is on point, and the tannin is slightly more aggressive in '22, but it is nothing that will not dissipate with time in the bottle or rich menu items: think grilled Italian sausage dishes or even roasted turkey. Block 3 is home to this old vine cabernet franc planted in 1968 on the Golden Mile Bench. Today, it yields one bunch per shoot, which is handpicked and sorted. The bunches were destemmed, and the berries were dropped into Italian Ganimede fermentation tanks, where they were cold soaked for two days before undergoing a 15 day fermentation. It was aged for 18 months in a 75/25 combination of French and American oak. The 2022 season at Hester Creek has been called one of the winery's most challenging yet productive years. The 2022 harvest yielded a larger crop than average with the addition of new vineyards. After a wet start, temperatures rose through summer and extended through fall, permitting full phenolic ripeness. The last of the grapes were picked on December 1.Tasted: 09 November 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
