Champagne Pol Roger Pure Extra Brut NV
Champagne, FranceLaunched in 2018, Pure Extra Brut (formally Pure Brut Nature) still has zero dosage, but a new name. Equal parts chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot meunier, the fruit was fermented in stainless, with full MLF, before heading to bottle and 3 years' rest before disgorge. Next to Pol's standard bearer NV (ahem - beloved by Sir Winston Churchill), this feels crisp and bright up front, led with lemon, apple blossoms, and juicy red apple, centered on meringue, and shaped by a chalky swipe. The Pol posh and ripeness comes into play as it relaxes in the glass, finishing with a lemon twist.
