Côte des Blancs, Champagne, FranceDidier, part of the third generation of the Gimonnet family, oversees the winemaking of their family winery, based in Cuis, in the heart of the Côtes de Blancs. This wine, like all of their chardonnay-centric wines, is laser focused. Brut Extra (cute!) is the same base as their flagship Cuis, but with lower dosage, aimed for trendy restaurants and wine bars that want low to no dosage only. My bottle, exclusively sold in Canada at Vessel Liquor, was base year 2021, with 36% reserve wines held in 750ml bottle, and was disgorged in June 2025 with 3.5 g/L. Showing more development than the Cuis, with red apple, toast, and wet chalk along the arrow-straight palate, with crunchy green apple and lingering sea salt on the finish. My bottle was base year 2019, with 32.5% reserve wines held in 750ml bottle, and was disgorged in June 2023 with 4 g/L. Surprisingly showing much more development than the Cuis, with ripe red apple, toast spread across a wider palate, textured with a velvet chalkiness, and finishing with a lingering buzzy salinity.Tasted: 29 November 2024Tasted by: Prices:
