Champagne Marie Copinet Argilla Villonissa NV
Côte de Sézanne, Champagne, FranceMarie-Laure Copinet and her winemaker husband Alexandre Kowal have taken over her family's estate, founded by her father Jacques in 1975. Before then, the Copinets were selling their fruit to Moet, but Jacques' work at Taittinger led him to decide to create their own grower champagne estate. They are based in the tiny Champagne village of Montgenost (population 140) in the Côtes des Sézanne, and they own 9 hectares of vineyards in Côtes des Sézanne, Côtes des Bar, and Vallée de la Marne, producing only 5,500 cases annually, and began organic conversion in 2018. This cuvée is their most unique and rare, with the 2019 chardonnay for this BdB, coming from their vineyards in Villenauxe la Grande, aged in clay eggs produced from clay harvested near where the vines are grown. The wine was native fermented with full MLF in these 300L clay eggs, where it remained for 1 year, on lees, prior to heading to bottle. It was disgorged with 0 dosage. Delicate and finely textured, this is quite saline throughout, streaming lemon pith and peel, green apple along the sleek palate, finishing with lingering salinity. Pure and poised and quietly confident. They also produce this exact same wine as a Coteaux Champenois, bottling from the egg.Tasted: 30 November 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:France | $68.00 | 750ml | France (euros) |
