Champagne Jacques Lassaigne Le Cotet Extra Brut NV
Côte des Bar, Champagne, FranceJacques Lassaigne put Montgueux on the map, a little outcrop of AOC Champagne vineyards south of the Côtes des Blancs and north of the Côte des Bar, technically in the Aube. The southeast exposure vineyards are focused on chardonnay, which makes sense based on the island of limestone and chalk. Jacques' son Emmanuel, working the vines since 1999, oversees the family's 4+ hectares, and deciding to focus on individual parcels. This BdB was planted between 1964 and 1967 on the chalky hillside furthest to the east. Before heading to bottle, the base wine aged on lees for 24 months in a combination of stainless and used Burgundy barrels, with MLF and no bâtonnage. After 3 - 5 years in bottle, this was disgorged. Emmanuel lists nothing on the labels, so it's tricky do know the DG date. This bottle, however, streaks like an arrow, tight and straight, with lemon pith and peel pinning in the green apple, white blossoms, and shimmering limestone texture. There's an impressively sharp shape here, without leaving this feeling lacking. An exciting bottle of Le Cotet, making this cuvée one to seek out.Tasted: 26 November 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:ON | $155.00 | 750ml | consignment |
