Champagne Elise Dechannes Essentielle 2020
Côte des Bar, Champagne, FranceElise Dechannes's wines are farmed in Les Riceys, the southernmost part of the Aube, and a village historically famed for their still rosé. Organically certified with biodynamic practices, her vines are rooted in the region's kimmeridgian marls and clay. Essentielle is entirely Pinot Noir, native fermented in stainless, and with 18 months sur lattes before disgorge (0 dosage) and low SO2 throughout. Not really a 'blanc' de noir, as this pours a salmon-orange hue, this brisk, sleek champagne streams white peach, red apple, toast, mandarin peel, mustard seed alongside oxidative kisses and along sharp acidity to a brief, anise-licked finish. A rawer, naked BdN, ready for enjoying now, ideally with foods. I wish for more SO2 to protect against the long journey in bottle to Canada. That would make a huge difference in a wine like this. I will seek it out to taste when in France next.Tasted: 01 November 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:BC | $110.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
