Champagne Bérèche et Fils Les Beaux Regards Extra Brut 1er Cru 2019

Montagne de Reims, Champagne, FranceCreated in 1847, Champagne Bérèche et Fils is a grower with 9.5 biodynamically farmed hectares of vineyards, predominantly situated in Montagne des Reims. Brothers Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche are the current generation running the family estate. Terroir-focused, they farm without herbicides, and all wines undergo tirer à liege, where the second fermentation takes place under cork rather than capsule. This Bdb comes off 2 vineyards in Ludes, the eldest, Les Beaux Regards, was planted in 1902. This BdB was native fermented in wood before moving to bottle unfined and unfiltered, where it remained for 3+ years. This was disgorged in January 2023 in 2 g/L. Serious and smouldering, with a lemon pith and peel brace structuring a deeply chalky, dense core. Wild herbs, bitter orange peel, orchard apple push through the lingering finish. Quite impactful and direct, yet somehow gracefully light on its feet, this is one of the beautiful specialties worth seeking out.Tasted: 26 November 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
