Wirra Warra Catapult Shiraz 2020

McLaren Vale, South Australia, AustraliaThe last time I tasted this wine was a decade ago, at the winery, when we decided to try out the medieval-looking trebuchet on the property with a bunch of unlucky watermelons. This wine fares better than those fruit, with grapes coming from around McLaren Vale, and aging in a mix of 70% French and 30% American (approximately 20% new). Ripe and fleshy, with rich blackberry, cassis jam, and a cool lick of minty pine, this glides along the palate unassisted by tannins, finishing with a bitter dark chocolate twist and a wee flush of warmth. Try with beef curry.Tasted: 28 October 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
