Mission Hill Terroir Collection Jagged Rock Chardonnay 2022

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaI haven't seen this wine since 2017, but have encountered excellent Jagged Rock chardonnay content in recent Checkmate and Mission Hill Perpetua editions. Terroir Series wines are supposed to tell a story, and this distinctive chardonnay with a lemon curd nose, a rich leesy bread dough character, and a lovely level of freshness is a raconteur. In the glass, peaches, lemons, sea salt, and rocks keep the wine moving forward with a level of electricity. The oak is perfect, complemented by a delicious mineral saline finish. It all happens in small French oak casks with very little new oak. Larger French oak barrels take on a third of the fruit, while a small amount is raised in small clay spheres. Eighteen months on lees builds the texture and weight to carry this fantastic Next World chardonnay. Dungeness crab cakes are the West Coast match, and lemon stuffed chicken can be the European response. You may have to join the wine club to buy this wine, but it's hard to know anything about what goes on behind the gates at the highly secretive Mission Hill. I do know some 15 year olds who have more functional websites than this Canadian wine giant.Tasted: 09 October 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
