Domaine Chignard Fleurie Les Moriers 2021

Fleurie, Beaujolais Villages, Beaujolais, Burgundy, FranceEven after many successful years, 4th generation vigneron Michel Chignard claims to be a novice. This modest winemaker is an ardent defender of traditional Beaujolais methods, taking a minimalist approach. In 2007 Michel turned the family domaine over to his son Cédric, who is carrying on this philosophy. Les Moriers, an arrowhead-shaped parcel that juts right down into Moulin-à-Vent vines, is one of the top sites in Fleurie. Their 8 hectares of vineyards average over seventy years old, keeping yields naturally low. This was native fermented, with whole clusters left for 8-12 days before pressing, fermented in stainless and cement, and then aged in tank and foudres until bottling the following spring, unfined and unfiltered. So much white pepper infiltrates this charming red, seasoning early raspberry, summer rhubarb, and morello cherry. Acidity is crunchy, and tannins are furry fine. A gentle, pretty Fleurie, ready for anywhere, anytime.Tasted: 13 October 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
