Phantom Creek Estates Phantom Creek Vineyard Cuvée 2020

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaPhantom Creek Vineyard turned 25 in 2021. Pioneering viticulturist Richard Cleave planted the site in 1996 on the lower terrace of the Black Sage Bench. The little eight acre parcel is mostly cabernet sauvignon and is the lead grape in most bottlings that have been released as single vineyard wines since the beginning. 2020 was an ideal year for ripening, and it's reflected in the 15.3% alcohol, which makes this a heavyweight but still well-balanced. It matured for 22 months in 65% new French oak that works seamlessly with the rich tannins and alcohol. The supporting cast of petit verdot, malbec, syrah, cabernet franc, and merlot add layers of complexity, bringing a range of flavours from plums and cassis to boysenberries and black cherries, with classic south Okanagan sagebrush notes and streaks of tobacco. This wine will only improve over the next decade. If you can wait, I suggest you do.
