Haywire Chardonnay Delong Gee Vineyard 2022

Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaYou know it has to be a special site and year when winemaker Matt Dumayne opts to bottle a single vineyard wine. The certified organic Summerland vineyard was planted in 2010, and purchased by Deb Delong (UBC Agriculture Prof) and her husband Ty Gee, hence the vineyard name. Haywire used fruit from the site exclusively for BUB until this vintage, when it felt too special to blend away. It was whole cluster pressed and native fermented in 2 neutral puncheons and 1 concrete egg, where it remained on gross lees for 11 months' aging. Shining bright, with lemon, green apple gliding across the medium palate, licked with flint which hums on the saline finish. There's an easy vibrancy and energy in this charming chardy, making it super moreish. 200 cases made for wine shop / wine club (so go get it).Tasted: 03 September 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
