Grosgrain Carignan 2022
Walla Walla Valley, Columbia Valley, Washington, United StatesIn 2014, Matt and Kelly Austin left their careers as an attorney and fashion designer in California for a new life in the Pacific Northwest. After Matt returned to school to study enology and spent time working with several Washington wineries, they stumbled upon a small vineyard on the Southside of Walla Walla. Planted with uncommon varieties, these 5 acres became Grosgrain Vineyards, a winery dedicated to championing sustainable farming. From volcanic fractured basalt at 420m, this carignan rested 11 months in neutral French oak. Perfumed plum, wild cherry is woven with rosemary, and framed with slight, sticky tannins. Acidity is brisk, and alcohol is a super welcome 12.2% (!). Definitely a welcome shift for Walla Walla, and one to watch.Tasted: 29 September 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:BC | $65.00 | 750ml | private wine stores |
